Public Service Announcement (PSA)

A public service announcement is designed to inform and educate people, not sell a product or service, like a commercial does. Its goal is to change public opinion and raise awareness on important issues.

TASK – The “Persuaders”

As a public relations specialist at your local water district you have been assigned with creating a video to encourage people to conserve water. Create a plan for your video using the facts below. Be creative by adding props or other ways to engage your audience with your message. Your plan must include 3 key facts and your video can be no longer than 90 seconds

  • Each American uses an average of 88 gallons of water a day at home.
  • The average family can waste 180 gallons per week (9,400 gallons a year) from leaks.
  • Turning off the water while brushing your teeth can save up to 8 gallons of water per day, which is nearly 3,000 gallons of water per year
  • We can all use at least 20% less water by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances.
  • The average family can save 13,000 gallons of water and $130 in water costs per year by replacing all old, inefficient toilets.
  • The average family spends more than $1,000 per year in water costs, but can save more than $380 a year from retrofitting fixtures.
